PAUL TAYLOR LEADS PHOTOGRAPHY TRIP TO TURKEY

Bellows Falls, Vt. - Great River Arts Institute (GRAI) announces that artist Paul Taylor will be leading a six-day workshop on wet plate collodion photography in Cappadocia, Turkey from September 16 – 24, 2006. The tuition is $4,500 and enrollment is limited to 8 participants.

Paul Taylor, who recently completed a series of compelling photographs of this austere region of Turkey, will guide a select group of students through the unique terrain and teach the art of wet plate collodion photography. Using box camera and glass plate negatives, participants will learn this turn-of-the-century technique and develop the negatives in the field, as was done over a century ago.

Cappadocia is the less-traveled region of Turkey, where the Gnostic Christians made their homes over 2000 years ago. Their secret society included underground chapels and monasteries, which are still accessible today. The amazing erosion over the centuries has created the famed “Fairy Chimneys” – rock formations that are unique in the world. The region is known for its apricots and nuts, wine and sheep farming. Participants will have the opportunity to learn much about this hauntingly beautiful part of the world.

Participants will leave New York on September 16 th, to arrive in Istanbul on Sunday, the 17 th. A short intra-continental flight brings the group to the region by late in the day. Arrangements have been made for the group to stay at Cornucopia, a comfortable and rustic B&B whose owners speak English. For more information and to register contact the Great River Arts Institute at 802-463-3330.

The Great River Arts Institute is a non-profit, New-England-based arts center dedicated to supporting and nurturing the visual and literary arts and providing regional youth programs. More information about GRAI is available at www.greatriverarts.org or by calling 802.463.3330.
