Print Studio Independent Rental

LARGE FORMAT PRESS

Great River Arts has a 1,200 square foot print studio that contains superb printmaking equipment including:

  • Charles Brand Etching Press 28” x 50”
  • Rembrandt Etching Press 24” x 42”
  • Takach-Garfield Etching Press 40”x 72” (Additional special permission needed)
  • Vandercook Letterpress 15” x 24”

The space is well ventilated, sunny and is equipped with a sink, assorted size worktables, and basic printmaking supplies, with plenty of wall space. The studio offers an independent environment nurturing to the creative process and allows for the dedication of time to art making.

The print studio is available to rent on a daily or weekly basis. The renting artist/printmaker will be loaned a key to the studio for the duration of the rental, so that s/he can access the space 24 hours per day during the rental period. Amenities include a coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, water filter and access to restrooms.

Rental requirements

Due to the technical nature of printmaking, all renters must go through an admission process to gain access to the print studio. This ensures the safety of the printmaker and the integrity of the equipment. Admission to the program is assessed in an interview with the Studio Director. At the time of the interview, artists must show technical proficiency and be prepared to discuss their equipment usage. Studio rental fees cover costs for equipment and upkeep and the materials such as solvents, newsprint, rags and tarlatan. Rental fees do not cover inks, etching grounds, paper or other special needs.

For the smaller presses, rates are $40/day or $150/week and longer term rates are negotiable. For the Takach press, the rates are $80/day or $400/week.

All renters are expected to understand and adhere to these basic tenets:

  • Responsibility for knowing safe use of studio and equipment and for applying safety guidelines.
  • Ability to work responsibly and independently.
  • Respect for and proper usage of facilities and shop equipment.
  • Cleanliness and willingness to pick up after yourself.
  • Consideration and respect for others working in the shared use building, their space and property.

Studio availability relates to existing classes and workshops offered by Great River Arts. Group rentals can be arranged with negotiable rates.
